Outdoor gear, in particular outdoor fire pits, has boomed in popularity in recent years. This is mainly because outdoor pursuits, activities, and lifestyle choices are more people than ever.
This means that we are constantly reviewing new products and while innovation usually means that these outdoor fire pits have more and more features.
So today we’re looking at the Suchdeco Portable Outdoor Fire Pit.
In this article, we’ll be looking at a product that has stripped back its features in order to be an ultra-compact and portable fire pit. We’ll consider what features it does have whilst also covering all of the pros and cons of a uniquely designed product.
If you are considering buying this product then it’s likely because of the portability it provides. This is one of the lightest portable fire pits on the market and weighs in at just 2.6 pounds. It also comes with a slim and convenient carry case and can be folded away to a dimension of just 12” tall.
There really isn’t much more to say in terms of portability. It’s one of the most portable and easily stored fire pits on the market and is one of the main reasons why so many people like this product.
The ease of use with this product is a key selling point. It comes with minimal parts (legs/frame, steel detachable feet, and mesh), and the setup could not be simpler.
Remove everything from the included carry case, fold out the legs, and insert the support tubes, attach the mesh with four ring attachments and you’re good to get started on making a fire. The instructions are included and straightforward to follow but it really is an easy product to use.
The raised design ensures the fire stays above ground which is useful for a few reasons. The raised fire will not scorch or mark the ground underneath and it will also allow for more airflow to fuel the fire and keep it burning optimally for longer releasing more heat.
The one caveat we will point out is that while you can get a good fire started and maintained on this product, it’s still a relatively small size even when fully set up. This product is therefore only really well suited to an individual or very small group.
Despite its lightweight design, this fire pit is still manufactured to a decent standard using 304 stainless steel and including a heat resistant mesh. While it’s not heavy-duty in use and you’ll want to be careful not to knock it when it’s filled with burning logs, it’s still a pretty solid product overall.
The mesh holds most (though not all) of the ash whilst burning and this means that cleaning is easy and straightforward after use. Simply dump the ash and wipe it clean.
You will need to be careful about the size and quantity of wood that you use though. As mentioned this is a small fire pit and overloading it with wood will quickly damage the mesh. The weight limit is 25 pounds and some customers have found the mesh become damaged after a few uses which could be the result of overloading.
We’d also recommend regular cleaning with a wire brush just to keep it free from rust or corrosion.
Best Suited For
This product has widespread appeal but will be better suited to certain individuals/groups than others. One reason for this is the price point. This is a value option product and it’s incredibly inexpensive when compared with most of the competition.
It also means that whatever your choice of outdoor pursuit is, this will likely fall within your budget for an outdoor fire pit.
This particular product will appeal to those that do not have a vehicle but still want a fire pit for use in the outdoors. People that this product will appeal to are mostly backpackers, kayakers, bikepackers, and anyone that is short on carrying space.
The weight is just 2.6 pounds and a compact size of just 12” in height when packed away which means that it can be carried around with ease even on longer hikes.
Pros and Cons
- Value Option: This product is well suited to those who are backpacking on a budget. The product is overall solid and functional and won’t break the budget.
- Portability: Portability is a key feature with this product and a weight of just 2.6 pounds and packed away dimensions of just 12 “ makes it an incredibly portable product.
- Raised Pit: The raised pit with mesh means that minimal ash falls through for a leave-no-trace product. The raised pit also allows better airflow to produce a better, longer-running fire.
- Highly Rated: The reviews for this product are mainly high due to the price point, value for money, ease of use, ability to hold the ash, and portability. Budget options will usually come with more issues but this fire pit seems to be an exception.
- Size: As a result of the compact size and focus on portability, this fire pit is definitely on the small side. It’s therefore only going to be well suited to an individual or very small group that does not require a large fire.
If portability is an essential requirement for your outdoor fire pit needs, this option from SuchDeco certainly ticks that box.
It’s not a heavy-duty product and you won’t be making large fires with it but it certainly serves a purpose. You can fit it in a backpack or attach it to a bike and set it up in just a few minutes with minimal effort.
While you aren’t really getting very many additional features, the inexpensive price makes this a very viable option and we feel you wouldn’t be disappointed with it (provided your expectations are for a lightweight and basic fire pit).
